KTM Supermoto Concept by anyaverageartist

We love us some concept bikes here at Asphalt & Rubber. While not all of them live in the realm of possibility, it’s interesting to see the ideas that come forth when people put pen to paper with reckless abandon. Motorcycling is about individual expression, which we often see exhibit itself in the way people modify their bikes after purchase. If this customization process is the physical and practical manifestation of this idea, then concept ...

Mini Stock Project Build - Honk If Parts Fall Off

Mini Stock Project Build - Honk If Parts Fall Off
Mini Stock Project Build - Project City Boy Mustang Racer Teardown - High Performance Pontiac Magazine
We tear into the Mini Stock to show you what to look for when building your first race car. Demolition is so much fun!

Imagine my delight when we finally got the City Boy, our new Mini Stock Mustang, back to the shop and up on the lift. Here I was, thinking in a couple of days we would be down to the bare metal, welding in a cage, and heading out to the track. I mean, how hard can prepping a Mini Stock Mustang be? Unfortunately, my reckless optimism got the best of me once again and, as it turns out, putting a quality race car together is neither easy nor fast. Since the real brains behind this operation, Pete Epple and Editor Rob Fisher, like to cover every base before moving forward, we had two days' worth of inspection prior to making any real moves. In this particular build, that meant tearing our stock Mustang down to the core and really figuring out what could stay, what had to go, and what was ruined beyond repair. Luckily, we had a lot of the former and none of the latter, which meant luck was on our side during the pickup and purchase of our Mini Stock-to-be.

Reader-submitted tips and tricks for a transmission filler and a carburetor cover

Two in One
Here are two tips for the price of one. Don't you hate using a long hose to fill your trans on your Street Stock? Well, here's an easy solution. A 90-degree spark plug boot fitted over the end of a quart of gear lube can easily fit in the transmission tunnel right beside the transmission. Presto, no long hose is needed.

Honda's Magic Gearbox: Worth A Few Hundredths A Shift

Honda's seamless shift gearbox has been the talk of the MotoGP world since it first debuted at Sepang, with journalists on a quest to chase down exactly what it is and how it works. The only response you receive from HRC or Honda riders about the gearbox is that it is "better" and that it is "smoother". The best guess about its operation so far has been that it is either based on or very similar to the Xtrac Instantaneous Gearshift System, which allows two gears to be engaged simultaneously, while driving only one.

Since the introduction of the system, speculation has been rampant as to exactly how much advantage Honda's gearbox confers. Wild guesses were doing the rounds, with the highest guess being that it would give an advantage of 0.9 seconds a lap, an absolute eternity. According to one of the journalists over at GPOne.com, Filippo Preziosi said he believed that Honda's gearbox was probably worth around 0.2 seconds a lap.
