Italian town of Cingoli welcomed 200 riders from 39 countries at 1625m long (1335m long for 65cc respectively) and very well prepared circuit Bartolomeo Tittoni. Today all the riders were fighting for their positions on the starting grid for Sunday heat races.
65cc
65cc Qualifying Practices (where the fastest lap time counts) showed us the favorites in this category. Jorge Prado Garcia (#61, ESP) set the fastest lap with time 1'42.523 and only Italian Gianluca Facchetti (#22) could hold his pace while the remaining riders were at least two and half seconds behind.
65cc class is somehow special as there is the only girl among 59 remaining boys. Her name is Sta?a Braniselj (#95), 10 years old, and came from town Cerknica in Slovenia.
Last chance race filled-in last four free positions in tomorrow?s starting grid. As all the boys wanted to show their best and succeed, spectators could see many amazing battles. Colin Scott (#25, GBR) took the holeshot but then had fallen down and had to race from 10th place. In the very last lap he took the lead back and won the last chance race followed by another British rider, Jed Etchells (#27) and two Czechs, Ji? Klejch (#21) and Petr Polk (#4).
85cc
David Herbreteau (#85, FRA) had ridden Cingoli track in 1'53.652 which made him not only qualify to Sunday races but also the pole position for the fastest rider. Pauls Jonass (#141, 1'54.707) from Latvia was about one second slower on the second position and another French rider, Thomas Do (#101, 1'55.141), occupied the third position.
Full grid set the fight for remaining four positions in Sunday?s starting list. Highly motivated riders had shown many great battles - fighting for every position and in every place of the track. The happiest ones on the finish line were Michele Baraiolo (#20, ITA), Sanchez Mahy Villanueva (#81, ESP), Maciej Wieckowski (#501, POL) and finally Sid Evans (#47, GBR).
125cc
Philipp Kartner from Austria (#25, 1'48.201) dominated 125cc Qualification Practice on this hot and sunny day. He was followed by Joseph Savatgy (#28, 1'48.317) and Chris Alldredge (#29, 1'48.774), both from USA.
There were still 28 riders who wanted to conquer one of four remaining positions on the starting grid for the Sunday. The race seemed to be easiest for Jaap Corneth (#79, NED), who took the holeshot, lead for the entire 10minutes + 2 laps and finally made it to finals with more than 10 seconds lead.
Fight for second, third respectively fourth place took for entire round. The order of riders had changed many times as finally Anton Lundgren (SWE) took second, Sam Winterburn (GBR) third and Carl Bengtsson (SWE) the very last position on the grid.
System of the race
The system of Monster Energy FIM Junior Motocross World Championship is following: as every category is divided into group A and B every group has one Free Practice and then one measured Qualifying Session. 18 fastest riders from every qualifying group promote directly to the Sundays finals whilst remaining riders fight for last four positions on the grid in Last Chance Race.
On Sunday every category has two heat races and riders get points according their position. Rider with highest number of points wins the race. In case of ties the second round decides.
Nations classification is calculated from points of one best rider from every category ? the country with lowest sum wins. In case of ties better result from 65 decides, if there is still a ties 85cc result decides and then possibly 125cc best result decides.
