2011 WSBK Miller FP2 Result: Camier Edges Corser As The Rain Stops

The second session of free practice started out wet, but conditions improved as the session progressed. The rain more or less stopped falling by the end, with riders improving their times rapidly. Leon Camier grabbed the top spot, finishing ahead of Troy Corser, the two men having alternated the lead for a good part of the session.

The weather is starting to lift, and conditions could be a little better for Superpole.

Used Racecar Buyer's Guide - Buyer Beware!
Used Racecar Buyer's Guide - Stock Car Racing Magazine
A used stock car buyer's guide with tips to help you make the right decision

It is a right of passage that nearly everyone must go through, and then regret later: buying a used car. We have all seen it happen to people we know. They purchase a used car and later find out it was a lemon. It can be a very dangerous game because of the unforeseen costs that come along with a used car. How can you trust the person selling the car? Is the car in as good as shape as the seller says it is?

Jeff Huneycutt shows off the latest in oil filter technology, the reusable filter

We can all probably agree that saving the earth is a good thing. Of course, giving up showers if you live in Alabama, or biking to work in January if you live in Maine probably aren't the best ideas. And does the stuff like switching off the light when you are going to be out of the room for 15 minutes really make that much of a difference anyway?

Don't Cheek The Beak, Or Why Marco Simoncelli Has Been Called To Face Race Direction At Barcelona

I'm sure you're all familiar with the situation - after all, if you're reading a motorcycle racing website, the chances are good that you are no stranger to speed - you're out for a ride or a drive somewhere, and you get pulled over by the local constabulary. There are a number of responses to getting stopped by the long arm of the law: loudly protesting your innocence and shouting at the officer who stopped you; sullenly sitting on your bike and responding to all questions with little more than a Neanderthal grunt; or giving the good man or woman a welcoming smile, admitting your failings (whether you believe the charges to be just or not), claiming it to be totally out of character and promising never to let it happen again. And of the three possible responses, it is fairly obvious which one will receive the lightest sentence (and no, it's not the one where you tell the officer exactly what part of the male or female anatomy they most resemble).

New Racing Parts Guide - The Best Of What's Coming For 2011, Part One
New Racing Parts Guide - Highlights From The 2010 PRI And IMIS Tradeshows - Circle Track Magazine
Every year CIRCLE TRACK combs the industry tradeshows to bring you the best new products and ideas that can help you win more races and have more fun in the coming season.

Every year in early December, the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) tradeshow sets up shop in Orlando and invites all the major manufacturers in the racing industry to show off their wares. And for us it's like a racer's giant toy store. The show is all about racing, so there's no time wasted passing by booths of giant rims or weapons-grade stereo systems. That's cool and all, but we're all about the racing and PRI has it.

This month's lucky YRC contest winner is Taylor Blevins from Canyon, Texas

Taylor Blevins Canyon, TX
Sixteen-year-old Taylor Blevins is this month's Young Racers' Club winner. The high schooler hails from Canyon, Texas, which is just south of Amarillo. Taylor is a third generation racer who has helped maintain and prepare both Modified and Late Models for his father and grandfather. Together those two Blevins have more than 50 years of experience racing and building race cars. So, naturally, with all that experience, as Taylor got older the decision was made to build a car for him to try his hand behind the wheel. They chose the Cyclone Division at the 3⁄8-mile clay oval of Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo. The trio built a '76 Monte Carlo with the original intention of running the local dirt tracks. However, they didn't get the car completed for the dirt season. So they did the only logical thing and went to get a little seat time on the pavement at Altus Speedway in Altus, Oklahoma. After running Atlus three times, Taylor ended up with three Third Place finishes. So, does that early success mean that he's ditching the idea of going dirt racing? Not on your life.

Helmet Safety Standards - Explaining the New Snell SA2010 Helmet Rating - Circle Track Magazine

Almost two years ago, the Snell Foundation began working on a new standard for motorsports helmets. Known as SA2010, the standard has a number of significant changes from SA2005. Far and away the biggest change relates to how the helmets are tested for impact and subsequently passed/rejected by the foundation. That effectively means that the new SA2010 is incompatible with the established SA2005. Given that incompatibility, it's entirely possible that your SA2005-labeled helmet may not meet the new standard. Depending on the rules of your chosen series, sanction, or track you may have to buy a new helmet.

Develop a checklist to make sure the parts and pieces on your car aren't under too much stress

Is there anything worse than being under a ton of stress? We have all felt it, whether at our jobs or dealing with family members. Whatever the case, how you handle stress determines how hard it is on you. Your racecar is not much different. Sometimes your vehicle will be under stress and you might not ever see or hear it, but your performance on the track will change greatly.

A Day at the Office with Team Yamaha (MotoGP)

The Money Situation: Dorna Owners Hoping To Cash In On Cheaper Loans

Behind the glamour, passion and engineering excellence that is MotoGP lies a world which receives a lot less attention, but is at least as important: the world of finance. For running a motorcycle road racing world championship costs money, and though the goal of any enterprise - including running a world championship - is to make a profit, in a world of declining motorcycle sales and economic uncertainty, making money in motorcycle racing is no easy feat.

That task is especially difficult for Bridgepoint Capital, the venture capital firm that took a controlling stake in Dorna back in 2006. Bridgepoint reportedly paid CVC some EUR 550 million for the stake in Dorna, an amount that was widely regarded even at the time as a very generous valuation, especially as CVC had acquired Dorna for around GBP 45 million just 8 years earlier in 1998. The purchase was funded in part by loans taken out by Bridgepoint from a range of banks.

This month’s Young Racers’ Club winner is Joshua Van Winkle. Joshua was born in Key West, Florida, on February 4, 1994. That’s right—the little island known more for parrots, Hemingway, and margaritas than oval track racing. But the unique location didn’t stop the youngster from developing a love of racing. His first experiences in racing were with his dad racing across the state of Florida in the Mini Stock division. Then in 1999, Joshua, along with his dad and mom, moved to North Carolina on a military transfer to Fort Macon.

Late Model Stock Valvetrain - Maximum Effort Valvetrain

Late Model Stock Valvetrain - Maximum Effort Valvetrain
Late Model Stock Valvetrain - How To Get The Most Out Of Your Valvetrain - Circle Track Magazine
Jeff Huneycutt takes a look at one of the hardest working valvetrains in motorsports—the Late Model Stock—and the tricks some engine builders are taking to push it to its limits

In circle track racing the Late Model Stock classes have a now-classic set of rules that mostly hasn’t changed in more than a dozen years. The heads must come from the manufacturer, typically the Chevrolet Bow Tie 23-degree and Ford N351, and must be iron with no port work besides a three-angle valve job. Valves must be steel and the stock size. The cam has to be a flat tappet solid, the carburetor is a restrictive two-barrel (usually either 350 or 500 cfm), and the intake is an aluminum dual-plane stock-style intake that legally, you aren’t allowed to do anything to beyond dust it off and bolt it up.

I ’ve had many requests for information about the leaf spring rear suspensions. These types of springs are popular in Dirt Modified cars and earlier stock divisions.
