The first weekend in September saw the World Championship arrive at the Misano circuit in San Marino for Round 12 of the 2010 campaign, but it was a weekend overshadowed by the tragic death of Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa.
In the 125cc race Marc Mrquez took victory, following which the Moto2 class took to the track. A crash on lap 12 however resulted in Tomizawa?s fatal injuries.
In the MotoGP race Dani Pedrosa won, but it was an understandably sombre mood in the post-race press conference.
Tributes to Shoya followed in abundance in the days that followed the Misano weekend, and a special After the Flag episode dedicated to the charismatic Japanese rider highlighted his much-loved personality and great talent, both of which had made him such a popular figure in the MotoGP paddock and one who remains ever present in the memories of all involved in the sport.
